MadHops is a dance program founded by Sameena Mitta for underrepresented groups and individuals. The program typically includes ballet and modern technique classes, as well as choreography/composition workshops. Sameena’s goal is to provide opportunities for participants to experience dance, in order to develop their understanding and appreciation of the arts and to inspire them to fulfill their own potential.
MadHops was founded in 2010 in Toronto, Canada. Sameena worked with schools in underrepresented Toronto neighborhoods to provide the students with access to a dance education.
Sameena has also taken MadHops workshops to India (2010-2011) and Kenya (2012). In India, she taught dance and created a film for students and teachers in Mumbai. In Kenya, she choreographed, taught dance, and created a film for students from an orphanage and young adults in Nairobi and local villages. The MadHops workshop in Kenya also combined dance with music and visual arts.
